Walmart can ship products sold on other platforms such as Amazon

Walmart announced a major expansion of its Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) in August this year, marking its most direct counterattack against Amazon. In a two-pronged strategic push, Walmart is officially opening WFS to fulfill orders from competing platforms like Amazon and eBay and expanding its international freight services to pick up goods directly from India and Vietnam.

This move transforms WFS from a simple fulfillment solution for Walmart.com sellers into a comprehensive, end-to-end global logistics platform. It's a clear signal that Walmart is no longer content to just build a better fulfillment service for its own marketplace; it's now aiming to become the central logistics hub for a seller's entire U.S. e-commerce operation, regardless of where the final sale occurs.

The Multi-Channel Offensive: Fulfilling Amazon Orders from a WFS Warehouse

The most significant part of the announcement is the expansion of WFS's Multi-Channel Solutions. While sellers could previously use WFS to fulfill orders from their own websites, Walmart is now officially supporting fulfillment for sales on rival marketplaces, explicitly naming Amazon and eBay.

This means sellers can now maintain a single pool of inventory within WFS warehouses and use Walmart's logistics network to pick, pack, and ship orders to their customers, whether they bought the product on Walmart.com, the seller's own Shopify store, or even Amazon.com.

Expanding the Global Footprint: Cross Border Services from India and Vietnam

Simultaneously, Walmart is broadening its international reach by expanding its Cross Border Services. Previously focused on China, WFS will now manage the pickup and importation of freight directly from factories and consolidation centers in India and Vietnam.

This end-to-end service simplifies the incredibly complex process of international shipping. WFS will handle everything from port pickup in Ho Chi Minh City or Mumbai to ocean freight, U.S. customs brokerage, and final delivery to WFS fulfillment centers.

As more businesses adopt a "China+1" sourcing strategy to diversify their supply chains, India and Vietnam have become critical manufacturing hubs. By establishing a logistics pipeline from these nations, Walmart is making its platform immensely more attractive to a new, fast-growing generation of international sellers. It lowers the barrier to entry for these businesses to access the massive U.S. market, effectively expanding Walmart's global seller base and product assortment.

By combining multi-channel fulfillment with a broader international freight network, WFS is creating a powerful, integrated ecosystem. A seller in India can now have their goods picked up, shipped to the U.S., stored, and fulfilled to an Amazon customer, all without ever leaving the WFS platform. This is the kind of end-to-end service that has made FBA so dominant for years.
